My name is Dr. John Lehnen. I am the Superintendent/Principal here at North Cape School. Tuesday, February 7, 2023 begins the open enrollment period where parents can apply for their children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. The regular open enrollment period ends at 4:00 p.m. April 29, 2023. Our website contains the links to online application information for parents   (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Open Enrollment website).

Formally, I have had experiences in several administrative roles in larger school districts as Assistant Principal, Principal and Assistant Superintendent. In the past eight years, I have developed great relationships with the school community of North Cape. The small North Cape School community cares deeply for each and every student’s success academically as well as socially, emotionally and personally. Students, teachers, parents and community members truly work together to provide a high quality school experience.

The students are awesome! I enjoy coming to work every day and seeing kids from 4K – 8th grades. They are an absolute joy to visit in class and be with at lunch time. Our state academic testing results have had a history of high marks and success, demonstrating we continue to excel in Math and Reading achievement and learning growth. In all my years, our teachers and staff are the highest quality, most caring individuals I have had the pleasure of working with. Our students are the very best citizens, giving and caring about others beyond our boundaries, raising money, clothing and food for those less fortunate than us. We have school sponsored sports and activities in boys and girls volleyball, basketball, softball, track and cheerleading. We also have a student council, music, band, garden club, talent show, and Robotics I, II and III.

Our parents are highly involved in making North Cape special. Our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) supports us in so many ways. They sponsor many activities such as grandparent’s day, various holiday activities, Family Fun festivals, movie nights, open gym/game nights and many more activities for families.

At North Cape, we set high expectations for ourselves to be the best school on the planet for ALL of our students! The teachers are extremely dedicated to teaching and learning. One of the biggest areas of focus has been the ongoing implementation of Readers and Writers Workshop for the past 4 years. Readers and Writers Workshop has positively changed the attitudes in literacy for so many students who had struggled before and, at the same time, addressed students who are grade levels ahead, meeting the individual needs of all students. The teachers are highly committed to learning, sharing and growing as professionals. Our district has invested in technological advancements updating the infrastructure, hardware, and software. Each instructional room is equipped with SMART boards or other interactive learning equipment. We are a 1:1 Chromebook environment with all students 3rd - 8th grade. 4K - 2nd grade also have iPads with 5-10 devices per classroom. We are constantly looking for ways to improve as a staff to help our students succeed!

I welcome parents to meet with me and tour our wonderful school. I can be reached at 262-835-4069. Go Vikings!

Sincerely,
John C. Lehnen, Ph.D.
Superintendent/Principal
