Hello and Welcome to North Cape School!
My name is John Lehnen. I am the Superintendent/Principal here at North Cape School. This past Monday, February 4, 2013 began the open enrollment period where parents can apply for their children to attend a public school in a school district other than the one in which they live. The regular open enrollment period ends on April 30, 2013. Our website contains the links to online application information for parents (Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Open Enrollment website).
Formally, I have had experiences in several administrative roles in larger school districts as Assistant Principal, Principal and Assistant Superintendent. In the past seven months, I have developed great relationships with the school community of North Cape. The small North Cape School community cares deeply for each and every student’s success academically as well as socially, emotionally and personally. Students, teachers, parents and community members truly work together to provide a high quality school experience.
The students are awesome! I enjoy coming to work every day and seeing kids from 4K – 8th grade. They are an absolute joy to visit in class and be with at lunch time. Our state academic testing results exceed reading and math achievement standards and identify North Cape as one of the top ranking K-8 schools in the state. Our students are very giving and care about others beyond our boundaries, raising money, clothing and food for those less fortunate than us. We have school sponsored sports and activities in boys and girls volleyball, basketball, softball, track and cheerleading. We also have a student council, chess club, garden club and K-Kids club.
Our parents are highly involved in making North Cape special. Our PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) supports us in so many ways. They sponsor many activities such as grandparent’s day, various holiday activities, limo lunch for students, Fall festival and movie night for families. At a recent movie night, we had 139 people attend on a Friday night!
The teachers are extremely dedicated to teaching and learning. Today, education is undergoing some of the greatest changes in history. The most important change is what we want our students to know and be able to do. Our teachers have been working with a national consultant to transition to Common Core State Standards, a more rigorous curriculum and instruction program for our students. The teachers are highly committed to learning, sharing and growing as professionals. Our district has invested in technological advancements with a wireless technology infrastructure to move classrooms into the 21st Century. It is our goal to offer our students more access to technology through a 1:1 initiative by next year.
I welcome parents to meet with me and tour our wonderful school. I can be reached at 262-835-4069. Go Vikings!
Sincerely,
John C. Lehnen
