Hello everybody! Welcome to Ms. Anderson's homepage! I am very ecstatic about this school year, and I'm anticipating it to be a year filled with fun and excitement! As most of you know, this is my fifth year teaching at North Cape school. This school year I will continue to teach English/Language Arts classes for the middle school. In addition to this, I will be teaching 8th grade Reading and U.S. History. I hope we have a fabulous year filled with collaboration and learning!
My hope is that I can use this website to keep in contact with both parents and students throughout the school year and provide you all with the most current and updated happenings in our classroom. I will be posting links, interactive tools, and student resources to use throughout the year on this website. Have fun browsing my site and feel free to make suggestions as to how I can use this site to make communication easier for all of us!

Breakdown of Categories
Completion Homework:
Any homework that is used as skills practice or given after initially learning a lesson or concept. The reason this is weighted lower is because students master concepts and skills at different rates. It is my intention to try to avoid penalizing a student for not understanding a concept right away, but instead allowing them to master the concept with extra practice and support from both the teacher and other students.
Mastery Homework:
Any homework that is completed after grading, correcting, practicing, and/or relearning the completion homework or review concepts. The mastery homework grade will showcase the students' knowledge of a certain skill(s) or concept(s) after allowing them time to comprehend and practice the skills presented in the completion homework.
Quizzes:
Will be used to assess students on certain groups of skills or concepts. May also be used to assess knowledge of certain parts of speech or grammar rules.
Projects/Tests:
Will be used as more of a cumulative assessment to see the students' knowledge of an entire unit or part of speech.
Writing Pieces/Speaking:
Students will be required to complete several writing pieces and speeches over the course of the year, in which they will go through the writing process. All writing pieces and speeches will be formal and students will be graded on the entire writing process, not only the final draft. Students will be provided with rubrics for most writing projects and speaking assignments so that they are aware of how they will be assessed.
Writing Journal:
All students will keep a writing journal that they use for daily writing prompts. Although I will not be reading or editing every single entry, students will receive a completion grade based off of effort and content pertaining to the writing prompts.
Collaboration/Participation:
It is very important to me to have a collaborative working environment with students. I enjoy sharing ideas and letting students take responsibility for their own inquiry and learning. Therefore, students will be receiving a grade in both participation and the ability to work well with others (i.e. group work.) For group work, students may often evaluate each other and their work efforts after completing group projects.
Sugar Act Example Letter of Correspondance
British Parliament:
As a colonist in the Americas, I believe that the Sugar Act that you passed is unjust to our citizens. You have taken away our right to buy and sell sugar, wine, and molasses to the countries of our choice. If you do not stop taxing our imports and exports on sugar and molasses, we will take action. The result of you not ending this unlawful act will be a colonial boycott on all British sugar, wine, and molasses.
